A brief Report on Inter State Coordination Meeting

Background:

It has been observed that the North Tripura has maximum HIV positive cases detected among truckers and  commercial drivers who operate through Karimganja & Jaintia Hills of Assam and Meghalaya states. While discussing the isuues with the truckers and  commercial drivers  it has revealed usualy they involed in sexual activities with Female sex Workers (FSWs) of Karimganja & Jaintia Hills and also observed that, positivity among FSW in Karimganja & Jaintia Hills is higher as compared to other districts of the repectives states.

To strengthen prevention programme in these corridors, a joint State  Coordination Meeting among  the  representatives  of Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura State AIDS Control Society , Chief Medical Officer (CMO), North Tripura district, North – East Technical Support Unit (NETSU), Guwahati , District AIDS Control Prevention Unit (DAPCU), Link Workers Scheme, Tripura Truck Owner Association, Tripura Motor Shramik Union & HIV infected Truck Driver, North Tripura District on 29.12.2016 at the Office Chamber of the CMO North. The programme was initiated under the chairmanship of Dr. Sankar Das. C.M.O North.

Topic Discussed:

  1. To provide Special focus on all highly vulnerable Female Sex Workers spots and  truckers holding points  at Assam & Meghalaya states on the North- Eastern Truckers corridors by existing FSW TIs  Like Nagatilla, BaghaBazar, Badharpur and Karimganja of Assam and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.
  2. To give more emphasise to intervene the vulnerable FSWs spots at Shilchar to Mizoram – Kolasiv road and also lower pua, Meghalaya (Near by Tripura state).
  3. To intervene (awareness with HIV testing service) all Truckers holdings points of Tripura    like Churaibari check post , Chamtilla, Panisagar, Kumarghat, Ambassa, Teliamura, Chakmaghat , Madhab bari,Nandan Nagar FCI godown, Gulchakkar Check post at etc. The existing Targeted Interventions (TIs)   & Link Workers Scheme (LWS) of Tripura State will work one day in a month by each unit for   truckers’ intervention in addition to their assigned works at their programme jurisdiction.

After thorough discussion, all participants have shared views positively to strengthen the prevention programme throughout the North- Eastern Truckers corridors. NETSU, Guwahati ,  has been shared that, ‘APPOLO TYRE’ CSR Company will support the said intervention as they already had meeting with the company. The CMO North assured his full support for smooth implementation of the programme.
