Screening & intervention camp on Cleft lip & Cleft palate under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) w.e.f 14.12.2016 to 19.12.2016

Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) aims at early detection and management of the 4Ds prevalent in children. These are Defects at birth, Diseases in children, Deficiency conditions and Developmental Delays including Disabilities. Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram was launched in Tripura in the F.Y-2013-14

Cleft lip & Cleft Palate:

Cleft is the second most common congenital deformity due to which the facial tissues in the lip and palate of a child do not fuse thus leaving a gap in these regions.

  1.       Children born with Cleft lip and Cleft palate face difficulties in eating, speaking, drinking and even breathing at times.  They face cruel ridicule and are socially ostracized because of the way they look. This congenital deformity can result in frequent ear infections.
  2.       A Cleft birth could be a result of malnutrition in mother, heredity and consanguineous marriage. In Tripura Evaluation, Treatment & Surgery of Cleft lip & Cleft Palate patient under RBSK has been started in Collaboration with Mission Smile & TMC & BRAM Hospital by NHM-Tripura from the F.Y 2014-15.
  3.      In the 6th Round screening & intervention camp on Cleft lip & palate are being held w. e. f 14.12. 2016 to 19.12.2016 it is estimated that, surgery of total 60 children will be completed in this camp.
  4.       In the 6th Round screening & intervention camp on Cleft lip & palate as on 15.12.2016 total 36 patients has been screened. Total 10 surgeries have been completed till the evening of 15.12.2016.

On 15.12.2016  at 12:00 noon a press briefing session has been conducted by Dr. Shailesh K. Yadav ,MD, NHM, Tripura in presence of Sri.Santanu Das, CEO-TMC & BRAM Teaching Hospital, Dr.Prabir Saha ,MS- TMC & Dr.BRAM Teaching Hospital along with  Senior Manager ,  Medical Surgeon & staffs of Mission Smile,  at the Conference Hall of Department of Surgery, TMC & BRAM Teaching Hospital , RBSK –NHM. Eligible patient of Cleft lip & Palate were also present in the press briefing session.  Lastly interaction with patient & patient parties has been done by the MD-NHM, Tripura & other dignitaries.
