About Department & Directorate

With a view to separate the medical education chapter from the Directorate of Health Services, this directorate was bifurcated and a new directorate namely Directorate of Medical Education was set up.  This Directorate (Directorate of Medical Education) started functioning w.e.f. 15.10.2011 and was accommodated in the 2^nd floor of Tripura State AIDS Control Society building located opposite to IGM Hospital (old gate).  This directorate was later shifted to the 2^nd floor of Dr.P.B. Das Memorial Diagnostic Center at Bidurkarta Chowmuhani, Agartala.

Who is Who

Prof. Dr. Chinmoy Biswas is the Director of Medical Education , Dr. Sanjib Kr. Ghosh is the Head of Office, Dr.Priya Jyoti Chakma is the OSD, Dr. Nihar Ranjan Das is the Branch Officer Nursing, , Dr. Pratik Swarup Ray is the DDO & SPIO Branch Officer Training in the Directorate of Medical Education.

Organizational Set up

This new directorate is under the administrative control of the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura headed by the Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Tripura, Health & Family Welfare Department. Prof. Dr. Chinmoy Biswas is the Director and Head of this Directorate.  There are many  Medical, Pharmacy , Para-Medical and Nursing Colleges / Institutions both in public  and private sector in the State which are under supervision of this Directorate.

Medical Colleges: -

• Agartala Govt. Medical College with GBP Hospital as its teaching Hospital, Agartala  and is imparting both Under Graduate (MBBS) and Post Graduate (MD/MS) Courses in various Disciplines (Government Institution)
• Tripura Medical College with Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital as its teaching Hospital, Hapania, West Tripura and is imparting both Under Graduate (MBBS) and Post Graduate (MD/MS) Courses in various Disciplines (Run by a Society).

Pharmacy Institutes: -

• Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (RIPSAT), Abhoynagar, Agartala and is imparting both Degree & Diploma courses in Pharmacy. (Government Institution)
• Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology, Amtali and is imparting both Degree and Diploma courses in Pharmacy ( Private run).

Para-Medical Institution: -

• Tripura   Institute of Para-Medical Sciences, Hapania is imparting various Para-Medical Graduate courses.  35% of the available seats in each course is reserved for the State Govt  (PPP Model Institute).
• Bhavans Tripura College of Science & Technology,

Nursing Colleges: -

• Tripura College of Nursing, located in the Tripura Medical College complex at Hapania under which the Tripura is imparting B.Sc. Nursing course  (Run by the same society under which the Tripura Medical College is running)
• The Institute of Nursing Science at Durjoynagar is imparting M.Sc Nursing, Post Basis B.Sc (Nursing) and B.Sc Nursing course also, apart from GNM course  (Private Institution)
• School and College of Nursing, Amtali under TIPS imparting ANM ,  B.Sc Nursing, and M.Sc Nursing  course . 35% of the available seats in each  course is reserved for the State Govt .(PPP Model)
• Tripura Sundari College of Nursing,Tulacona imparting GNM and B.Sc Nursing course ( Private). 

Nursing Institutions: -

• Nurses Training Institute is imparting GNM Course to female students only, located at IGM Hospital complex, Agartala (Government Institute)
• Dr. BRAM Nursing School is also imparting GNM course for male students only, located at IGM Hospital complex, Agartala (Government Institute)
• The ILS Nursing Institute is imparting GNM Course to both male and female students (Private Institute)

Achievement for the year 2021-22 (till August 2022)

1. MEDICAL :

AGMC:-

1. Super Specialty Hospital started functioning initially in Cardiology and Urology as OPD services.

1. 54 nos. of PG (MD/MS) seats increased in last 4 Years in 6 new Departments and 4 seats are reserved for EWS candidates since 2019 at AGMC PG (MD/MS) seats, (In the year 2017, 25 no. of PG seats in   13 PG   Departments, in the year 2019, 63 no. of PG seats in15 PG Departments and in the and year 2020, 79 no. of PG Seats in 19 PG Departments).
2. 25 nos. of MBBS seats increased in AGMC in last 4 Years 10 seats reserved for EWS Candidates since 2019.
3. Tripura State Online Counselling started for the first time since 2018 for MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, BASLP and Post Graduate Medical MD /MS Courses admission on the basis of NEET Merit list.
4. All eligible faculties of AGMC given full duty Charge.  23 Assoc. Profs. Given FDC as Professors, 35 Asst. Prof. given FDC as Assoc. Professors and 24 Basic Teachers given FDC as Asst. Professors.
5. All Eligible Faculties given Ad-Hoc promotion 18   Associate Professor promoted to Professor, 34  Assistant Professor promoted to Associate Professor,19  Basic Teachers (SRs/Tutors/Registrars) promoted to Asst Prof.
6. 7^th UGC pay scale given to all faculties of AGMC.
7. 7^th AICTE pay scale given to all faculties of RIPSAT.
8. New Principal AGMC appointed.
9.  A Skill Lab has been established in AGMC for training of students.
10.  E-Smart classes have been started in AGMC for UG & PG Students.
11.  6 Months Ultra Sonography training course started under PC & PNDT Act from 2019.
12.  Updating of Service Bond & discontinuation Bond for UG candidates (MBBS/BDS) has been formulated & introduced.
13.  For PG Candidates, Service Bond for Open Non Sponsored PG Candidates as well as    Discontinuation Bond has   been introduced.
14.  Augmenting availability of Healthcare Staff, 54 Junior Residents appointed and19 more to be appointed shortly, Senior Residents to be appointed shortly 19 by Absorption from THS and 34 by Direct Recruitment Joining letter to be issued shortly.

IGM :-

1. 20 number of DNB seats have been sanctioned in 4 disciplines at IGM Hospital under National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Out of those 20 seats, 4 seats are allotted in Paediatrics, 4 seats in Ophthalmology, 6 seats in Family Medicine and 6 seats in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. 50% of seats are reserved for State Domicile.

TMC :- 

1. At TMC COVID vaccination centre started on 16/01/2021, Opening of BSL-2 starting w.e.f 24/4/2021, Opening of DCH, TMC started on 13/05/2021, Functioning of  Oxygen Plant 600 LPM, PSA started on 11/6/2021 through PM Cares.

1. Nursing

1. MSc Nursing Course started in School and College of Nursing (TIPS) Hapania,  with 09 seats belonging to Govt  

@35% share , 03(three) nos Govt. nominations issued.

1. Online Registration process for admission to ANM/GNM course successfully completed.
2. Introduction for GNM Course at ICFAI University with intake capacity of 50 students per academic session 2022-23.
3. ILS Nursing Institute, Agartala  started  B.Sc Nursing (50 seats).
4. Sarvodaya Institute of Nursing Science, Melagarh started GNM course (60 seats).
5. 4 (four) New Nursing Institutes established (Sarvodaya Institute of Nursing, Melaghar, ICFAI Institute of Nursing, Kamalghat, HFT Nursing Institute, Indranagar, North East Institute of Nursing Science, Dimsagar).
6.  Admission to Nursing Courses made transparent with introduction of Online Registration & selection based on 90 % Academic Criteria & only 10 % Interview since 2018  instead of 100 % Interview as earlier practised.
7. 275 new seats have been increased including BSc, MSc, Post Basic Nursing, ANM, GNM in various Nursing Institutions.( 2018-2021).

 PHARMACY :

         RIPSAT :

1. M.Pharm courses have been introduced and started with 6 seats.
2. Rs. 3 Crores has been sanctioned by AICTE for Construction of New Girls hostel
3. Funding from AICTE of Rs. 53 lakhs received by RIPSAT for Research Development.
4.  Total 190 new seats have been increased in various courses of Pharmacy including B.Pharm, D. Pharma, Practice, D.Pharm (Ayur), D.Pharm (Homoeo) in RIPSAT and Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology, Amtali.
5. 30 new seats increased in B. Pharm course, new course of B. Pharm (Practice) introduced for Practising Pharmacists of Tripura with 40 seats, 10 seats for D. Pharm Ayurveda, 10 seats for D. Pharm Homoeopathy and 6 Seats M. Pharm.
6. RIPSAT Received AICTE recognition & affiliation for B Pharm & D Pharm courses for 1st time and also received PCI affiliation for B Pharm & D Pharm course for 3 consecutive years .
7. Research Program in Development of Phytomedicine from Medicinal Plants of Tripura has been approved by DST , GOI.

 Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology (BPT) :

1. 01 New Pharmacy College viz. Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology established. Approval received from PCI for B.Pharm & D.Pharm Courses with B.Pharm 40 seats & D.Pharm 40  seats.

 New courses opened in Tripura Institute of Paramedical Science from 2022-23 session :

1. Master in Medical Laboratory Technology – 05 students.
2. Master of Physiotherapy - 05 students.

Achievement during the year 2020-21

• AGMC:-

1. 16 numbers of Post graduate seats have been increased from 63 Post graduate seats to 79 Post graduate seats at Agartala Govt.   
2. Medical College. Amongst these 50% seats are for State Quota and 50% for All India Quota.

5. Installation & Operationalization of 20 KL Cryogenic Oxygen tank based plant at AGMC  installed commissioned and operational since Nov. 2021.
6. Installation of 02 (two) PSA Oxygen Generation plants of 1000 LPM & 900 LPM for Jayanti Block and NTH-1 of AGMC & GBP Hospital installed, commissioned and operational since October 2021.
7. Upgradation of the BSL-2 Lab of VRDL to BSL-3 level-supply order issued.
8. Gene Sequence- Installation completed.

• IGM:-

• 20 numbers of seats have been sanctioned against 4 number of disciplines at IGM hospital under National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Out of these, 4 (four) number of seats in Paediatrics, 4 (four) number of seats in Ophthalmology, 6 (six) number of seats in Family Medicine and 6 (six) number of seats in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.  50% of seats are reserved for State Domicile.

• 20 seats Post MBBS NBEMS Diploma Courses at IGM Hospital against 4 disciplines under National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Out of these 4 seats in Paediatric, 6 seats in Obst. & Gyneacology, 4 seats in Ophthalmology & 6 seats in Family Medicine out of which 10 seats (50%) are State Quota seats for Tripura State Govt. In service Doctors.

• RIPSAT:-

Total 90 numbers of seats have been increased in RIPSAT.

• 30 (thirty) seats have been increased in B.Pharm RIPSAT.
• 40 (fourty) seats have been started in B.Pharm Practice Course in RIPSAT.
• PCI and AICTE has approved for starting 15(fifteen) seats for M.Pharm Course in RIPSAT.

• Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology:-

• One new Pharmacy Institute (Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology) has been established in Amtali.
• 60 (sixty) seats in D. Pharm Course.
• 60 (sixty) seats in B. Pharm  Course.

1. Nursing:-
   • 04 (four) nos. of new Nursing Training Institute have been established.

• 265 number of seats have been increased in Nursing Courses in various Nursing Institutes of Tripura.
• Newly constructed NTI building handed over to the  Director of Medical Education. GNM training course is going on there and 150 bedded hostel facility is also available for student. (Boys only).
